| Carlo Ponti was born in Switzerland. He lived in Paris for a number of years where he studied photography. About 1852 he moved to Venice where he opened his own studio. He catered mostly to tourists for whom he would put together albums of his photos. He won many awards for his work and in 1862 won an award for his invention, the Megalethoscope. He was also optician to King Victor Emanuel ll of Italy. | |||||||||||
